A copper or a zinc plate is the substrate for an intaglio print. Plates are etched in acid or engraved using particular tools to make detailed designs that can be inked and reprint over and over before the image begins to fail. Copper is desirable. It etches more even in acid, holds texture and detail a little finer, and is more durable. Our copper plates are considered economy grade versus pre-polished Professional Etcher's Copper. We strive to ensure the best material available but minor surface flaws may occur. Surface flaws can typically be burnished out of the surface of the plate.
